At the end of January, Ladies Barebow archer Joanne Walker, retained her Indoor UlsterChampion Title at Craigavon run by Ulster Archers and Craigavon Archery Club. Lisa McConnell took the Ladies Traditional Title and a recent club beginner Will Weir came 3rd in Gents Barebow setting a new pb for himself. This was a difficult indoor competition with 60 arrows first shot at 25 metres then another 60 arrows shot at 18 metres on a smaller target face.

Over the St Patricks weekend the All Ireland Field Championships were held by City of Belfast Archers at the stunning setting of Belfast CastleTwo gruelling days of up and down Cavehill Country Park shooting at Field Targets from 5 to 60 metres at times in the rain or relentless wind tested BAC members. Again, Ladies Barebow archer Joanne Walker took the Title after tense head to head matches against Irish archer Jane Langley and local Irish archer Orla O’Connor which were shot in the beautiful gardens of Belfast Castle. Gents Barebow archer Philip Fitzpatrick came 4th in a highly-contested group. The Ladies Traditional Title was decided after the qualification 2-day score and went to Lisa McConnell. Robert Hall having only returned to competition after an end of season break just missed out on the cut for the head to heads by one point. Max Blair, Junior Boys took Silver in the Cadet Men category.

The beginning of April saw our new Regional Governing Body, Archery NI, hold their Inaugural Indoor Championships. Joanne took a back seat to help run the complicated scoring system. Special mention to Zoe Wright winning the Under 16 Junior Ladies Barebow. Daniel Dudley came 2nd in the Under 14 Junior Boys Barebow. Both these juniors have only been shooting for 6 months and they are so keen. Lisa McConnell took the Ladies Traditional Title. Philip Fitzpatrick shot brilliantly and narrowly missed out on a medal. Susan Agnew shooting Ladies Recurve came 2nd in the Championships and 3rd in the Open, similarly, Robert Hall took 2nd in the Championships and 3rd in the Open. Robert has set a record this year shooting 149/150 at the Irish Indoor Championships.

For all the events, Club Chairman Andrew Walker was part of the Judges Team, becoming so respected in his field that, he even spends time judging at Field Shoots in England when his wife Joanne is competing.

A club Easter Fun Shoot was held on the last indoor club session with Easter Eggs for the winners and Prize Giving for winners of the Indoor League which was set up from September to April. Winners of the Junior Girls was Izzy Frizell with Zoe Wright 2nd.  Daniel Dudley was the Junior Boys winner with Caleb Lindsey 2nd. Senior Ladies was won by Gaye Cochrane and 2nd was Lindsey Dudley. Senior Gents winner was Will Weir and Ian Lindsey 2nd. Another trophy was awarded to Junior Boy Oisin Fields who showed much promise over the past year.

The club has grown over the last 12 months but is still small enough to feel like it is one big family. The club sessions now move out to Gilford Castle Estate where a badge system is being implemented rewarding archers who shoot consistently higher scores at training.

BAC will also be preparing for their Two-day WRS Castle Shoot at Gilford Castle Estate in May.
